Technical Designer
New York, NY / Full-time, On-site
About the role
We're looking for an Associate Technical Designer who understands that the details are what make a garment great - the specs, the fittings, and the communication behind them. It's a hands-on role for someone early in their career - 1–2 years of experience - who's curious, communicates well, and genuinely enjoys the technical design process. What matters most is the right mindset and a real interest in learning and growing. You'll be involved at every stage of how a garment comes together, from initial concept to finished piece.
Responsibilities
How you'll work
You'll work across the development process, alongside our design and production teams and our overseas suppliers - helping move styles from concept to final approval. You'll support and help lead fittings, create CADS and tech packs, check garments against their specs, and help keep our fit standards consistent across styles.
How we approach tech design:
- We care about the details. In technical design, the little things become the big things — the quality of a finished garment comes from the care that goes into every step.
- We never stop questioning. There's always something to learn about what's working, what isn't, and how we make our fit and design better.
- We're a small team that works closely together, pays attention to the details, and takes pride in the quality of our work.
- You'll work closely with the wider team and our founders, with the chance to learn quickly, take ownership, and make a real contribution.
What you'll do
- Support and help lead fittings, contributing feedback on fit, construction, and proportion across sizes
- Create clear, structured tech packs, CADs, and technical flats to support development
- Review garments against their specs, spotting issues and communicating them clearly
- Communicate directly with overseas suppliers on fit comments, construction callouts, and approvals
- Work with design and production to keep styles technically sound throughout development
- Maintain and update measurement charts, size specs, and grading across a full size run
- Help keep development on track across multiple styles and deadlines at once
- Support day-to-day technical organisation and keep fit standards consistent
Requirements
Who you are

- An understanding of garment construction and fit
- A strong communicator with suppliers — comfortable conveying fit notes and technical detail to overseas factories
- Able to manage multiple styles and deadlines at pace
- Experienced in Adobe Illustrator, and confident in Excel / Google Sheets
- Highly organised, detail-oriented, and collaborative
- Curious and open-minded — excited to learn how we do things at With Jéan, while bringing fresh thinking of your own"
- Eager to learn, grow, and take real ownership
