International Women’s Day is a day of solidarity for us all to celebrate the achievements of women. For me, this day acts as an opportunity to reflect and admire the women who have helped shape me into the person I am today.
Wear sunscreen!
I feel the most empowered when I’m behind the drum kit. It’s so fun feeling feminine and doing something so badass!
Sarah Jones, the absolute angel that plays the drums for Harry Styles. I would loveee to listen to any advice she has to give to all young, female musicians that dream of doing what she does!
We create life! Still blows my mind we can grow another human inside of us. We are amazing!
It’s a day to reflect how far we have come and to celebrate each other. To appreciate the women you are surrounded with and the women who inspire you.
IWD is a day to celebrate women and feel celebrated as women and how far we've come, it's a day to reflect on the achievements we make and continue to make as we strive forward for equality.
You are the master of your own mindset, think and believe and you can achieve anything you set your mind to.
There are so many women in my life that I admire and inspire to, to name a few:
1. My sister. From a young age my sister is who I looked up to the most, she taught me to be strong and to be myself and not to be afraid of what anyone thought of what/who I wanted to be. I admired the way she grabbed life in her hands and made it her own and I learnt a lot from just trying to follow in her footsteps. She is my biggest mentor and inspiration to have got to where I am today.
2. My mum. She is the strongest woman I've ever met and I think my sister and I get this resilience from her. She is currently battling cancer and remains to be the most positive, loving and kind human to everyone around her. Watching her go through such a traumatic time breaks my heart and I can't help but admire all that she’s done for myself and my two siblings, she raised us with the utmost love and support in everything we did and the older I get the more I want to be just like her. Her battle inspires me everyday to just get through the most simple of things.
3. Evangeline. My business partner and best friend, I’ve never met anyone with such determination and she has taught me so much working by her side. With her I feel such a sense of force between us, as if we could conquer anything and everything, She’s the most inspirational partner you could ever ask for.
A day to acknowledge all women and to encourage and continue to act on our evolution.
Let the frustrations of most of our industries being male dominated motivate you and never compromise or take no for an answer.
My great grandmother who survived a war and the separation from home and family.
All day everyday, knowing the world I've created for myself, tangible and intangible. Overcoming so many barriers in business and in life and being at a place where I can just appreciate myself and everything and everyone around me.
If it was someone from the past, I'd love to spend another day with my Grandma, just to hear her stories one more time and appreciate the life she lived and her cooking of course.
But if it was someone in the present it would be Kris Jenner!! Like they say the devil works hard but Kris Jenner works harder, without her there would be no Kardashians. I'd love to spend time with her and ask questions about business & life and how they got to where they are now.
If I could give 13-year-old me any advice it would be to love yourself and don't be scared to do what you want!! I remember at a young age being so self-conscious about the way I looked or constantly comparing my body to my friends or people around me. I would constantly put myself down, or look at myself and not love what I saw! It took me a long time to learn how to love myself, I still am learning today and I think it's something all women need to do a little more in today's day & age.
A piece of advice I would give to my younger self would be to write things down. It is amazing how many great ideas you have as a child and you grow through life. And it is easy to forget them so I definitely would tell myself to write things down whatever it may be! It is also amazing to see what you used to dream of, and now most of these dreams have all come true!
Being a woman I love how I feel very free and accepted to express my feelings and emotions, I also like the clothes and cosmetics aspect of being a woman. I love to dress up or get my nails done, makeup is fun, I love jewellery, I feel like guys are more limited in how they can dress due to social norms but honestly being a woman is all-round a lit time.
