At the heart of our latest collection, Fiorellino, is a custom paisley print, designed in-house and brought to life through a process of inspiration, experimentation and thoughtful detail. We sat down with our co-founder, Evangeline, to take a closer look behind the design; from the initial inspiration to the final print, and all the little details in between.
I’ve always loved vintage prints, particularly paisleys, and the way they can feel so nostalgic and timeless at the same time. I wanted to create something that had that same feeling, almost as though you could have discovered it on a beautiful vintage piece from decades ago, but that was completely original to us. That was actually the hardest part of the process. Paisley is such a recognisable and traditional print, so finding a way to reinterpret it without losing what makes it so beautiful took a lot of time and consideration. I wanted it to feel intricate and romantic, but still effortless and wearable.
I think it happened quite organically. We knew we wanted a really special print for the collection, but as the design developed, it became something we felt could really define the story. The collection is called Fiorellino, which means "little flower" in Italian, and I love how that ties back to the delicate floral elements woven throughout the paisley. The print has so much detail and character, but it still feels quite soft and feminine, which is exactly what we wanted for the collection.
This was honestly the most time-consuming print we've developed. We went back and forth on it for what felt like forever! I was quite particular about getting it right because I didn't want it to feel like just another paisley print. There are so many beautiful vintage references out there, but creating something that feels equally timeless while still being distinctly our own is a lot harder than it sounds. We went through countless revisions, refining the smallest details until everything felt balanced. It was definitely a labour of love.
I think the biggest evolution was finding the right balance between intricacy and simplicity. With paisley, it's so easy for a print to become too busy, or alternatively, to lose the richness and character that makes it special. We spent so much time refining the individual motifs, their proportions and how everything flowed together. I wanted it to have that beautiful, slightly imperfect quality you find in vintage textiles, rather than feeling overly polished or computer-generated. It was really about all those tiny adjustments that might seem insignificant individually, but collectively make such a difference to the final result.
